Deployment for Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project

Belle Chasse, La.-based shipyard C&C Marine and Repair proudly announces the delivery of the General Arnold, a cutting-edge 32-inch cutter suction dredge, to Callan Marine of Galveston, Texas. This addition to Callan Marine’s fleet is set to revolutionize the ongoing Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project.

The General Arnold, measuring over 278 feet by 72 feet, boasts a molded depth of 16 feet and a 10-foot draft. It was ceremoniously christened in Corpus Christi, Texas, on February 20, following its delivery on February 5.

This powerful dredge immediately commenced operations on Phase 4 of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project, awarded to Callan Marine by the Galveston Engineer District. The project aims to deepen and widen the channel, facilitating smoother navigation for vessels and accommodating increased barge traffic. Notably, all dredged material from Phase 4 will be repurposed beneficially, aligning with eco-friendly practices.

Equipped with four Wabtec 16V250MDC12 Tier 4 main engines generating a combined 24,000 hp, the General Arnold ensures compliance with emission standards through innovative exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology. With a maximum dredging depth of 97 feet, its operational efficiency is further enhanced by a sophisticated cutter head, facilitating precise maneuverability.

Advanced automation systems, including a Krohne flow meter, an ITS density meter, and DSC Vision survey equipment, optimize production and monitoring onboard the General Arnold. The vessel also features substantial tankage for fuel, potable water, ballast water, and various oils.

Accommodating a crew of 34, each stateroom on the General Arnold offers modern amenities, including individual thermostats, bathrooms, and televisions. Satellite TV and internet services are standard, promoting crew comfort and connectivity during extended operations.
