Representative Salud Carbajal recently visited Ventura Harbor to monitor the progress of the ongoing annual dredging operations. He discussed the significant benefits of the $8,471,000 in federal funding that he facilitated, which is earmarked for maintaining navigational safety and beach upkeep at Ventura Harbor.
Federal Funding Boost for Ventura Harbor
This federal financial support was part of the 2024 budget, signed into law last month by President Joe Biden. It includes over $26 million specifically allocated for the maintenance of harbors and ports along the Central Coast, including Ventura.
Importance of Ventura Harbor to the Local Community
“The harbor is a cornerstone of our community’s economy and lifestyle,” stated Rep. Carbajal. He highlighted the importance of safe and functional waterways for both recreational and commercial activities, such as family sailing and fishing, which are vital to the region’s well-being.
Annual Dredging Ensures Safety and Accessibility
The Ventura Port District has kicked off this year’s dredging of the harbor’s entrance channel. This essential maintenance work keeps the harbor operable for all users, supporting the local maritime industry and providing safe access for recreational boaters.
Collaborative Efforts in Harbor Maintenance
The dredging initiative is a collaborative endeavor involving the Ventura Port District, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Manson Construction. Besides maintaining navigational safety, the dredging process contributes high-quality sand that is used to replenish and enhance the public beaches at Ventura Harbor, benefiting beachgoers and protecting the shoreline.
