DEME Embarks on Groundbreaking Offshore Grid Projects with Prysmian

Landmark Contracts for DEME

DEME has landed two significant contracts from Prysmian to oversee the engineering and installation of the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 offshore grid systems in the Netherlands. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in DEME’s history, underscoring its leadership in large-scale marine engineering projects.

These contracts not only represent the largest cabling project in DEME’s history but also herald the introduction of Prysmian’s cutting-edge 525 kV HVDC cable technology. This technology promises to revolutionize the industry with its enhanced capacity for electricity transmission, setting new standards for efficiency and reliability.

Comprehensive Solutions by DEME

DEME’s strategy for these projects involves an integrated solutions approach, which includes cable installation, landfall processes, rock placement, dredging, and the construction of marine infrastructure. This holistic method ensures efficiency and adherence to high-quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Preparation and Vessel Deployment

For the IJmuiden Ver Alpha project, DEME will conduct route preparation, carry out detailed surveys, and manage landfall activities. The company is also set to handle pre-sweeping and rock placement tasks for the Nederwiek 1 project. A diverse fleet of vessels, including cable installation ships, hopper dredgers will be deployed to support the various stages of the project.

Construction Activities and Project Timeline

The projects will also involve constructing essential beach works and cofferdam structures at the cable landing sites, crucial for the stability and security of the cable installations. The work on these ambitious projects is scheduled to start in stages beginning in 2025, promising to enhance the offshore infrastructure capabilities of the Netherlands significantly.
