Efforts to address the shallow conditions plaguing Clifton Springs boat harbour are currently underway, with dredging operations scheduled to conclude today, Friday, March 29th. The need for dredging became pronounced following recent storms, which resulted in the accumulation of sand and seagrass deposits.
Addressing Shallow Conditions: Clifton Springs Boat Harbour Undergoes Dredging
Vessel operators are being cautioned to remain vigilant during the dredging process, particularly when tide levels drop below 0.4 meters. Such conditions could pose challenges for vessels with deeper drafts navigating in and out of the harbour.
Infrastructure Enhancements Planned: March to July Initiatives
In addition to the dredging activities initiated last Wednesday, further enhancements to the harbour area are slated to occur from March through July. These initiatives, financially supported by the Victorian government and managed by the City of Greater Geelong, are aimed at improving the overall facilities and infrastructure of the area.
Planned upgrades include the establishment of a new car and trailer park on reclaimed land adjacent to the new boat ramps. Additionally, a roundabout is set to be constructed at the intersection of Jetty Road and Bay Shore Avenue to optimize traffic flow in the vicinity.
The City has issued a statement advising the public to expect increased construction activity and temporary alterations to harbour access routes during this period of development.
