Innovative Solutions for Wastewater Management

Vessel Deployment and Project Overview

This spring, Jenkins Marine’s impressive fleet, including the Multicat ‘Wind Lass’ and the self-propelled spud leg pontoon ‘Doreen Dorward’, along with the deck pontoon barge ‘JML5014’, have embarked on a significant marine operation on the River Severn in Wales. This initiative highlights the company’s commitment to tackling challenging marine engineering tasks with precision and expertise.

Innovative Solutions for Wastewater Management

The primary objective of this project involves the installation of a new wastewater outfall, expertly managed by Kaymac, a leader in marine civil engineering. This development is crucial for enhancing the area’s wastewater management infrastructure, demonstrating Jenkins Marine’s role in promoting environmental sustainability.

Advanced Excavation Technology

A pivotal element in this operation is the utilization of a 50-ton long reach excavator that is outfitted with a cutting-edge 3D GPS Prolec system. This technology ensures precise dredging of the trench needed for the new pipeline and assists in the placement of temporary marker piles, showcasing the integration of technology in marine construction.

Enhanced Equipment and Operational Efficiency

The ‘JML5014’, a robust 50m x 14m pontoon deck barge, has been specifically modified for this project. It features deck protection to accommodate a large 150-ton crawler crane, welfare containers, and a sophisticated four-point mooring system, which underscores Jenkins Marine’s capability in modifying equipment to meet specific project needs.

Dynamic Marine Operations and Team Coordination

The ‘Wind Lass’, a formidable 37tBP workboat, plays a critical role in the logistics of the project. It is responsible for the strategic movement of the ‘JML5014’, handling anchorage, and ensuring the smooth transfer of people, goods, materials, and pipeline segments between the project site and shore base. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also highlights the skilled coordination among the crew.

On Track for Timely Completion

According to Jenkins Marine, the project is progressing well and is anticipated to reach completion by the upcoming summer. The team is excited about their ongoing partnership with Kaymac Marine and is eager to overcome the challenges of this demanding project. This collaboration underscores the company’s reputation for delivering complex marine projects successfully.
