Jamestown Dredging Project

The Jamestown Fishing Harbor Project has been successfully completed and is now ready for formal handover to the Government of Ghana, according to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). This milestone marks a significant achievement in enhancing the infrastructure and operational capabilities of the Jamestown Fishing Harbor.

Comprehensive Project Details

Dredging and Construction Work

The Jamestown Fishing Harbor Project involved extensive dredging of approximately 100,000 cubic meters of the harbor basin. In addition, hydraulic structures totaling around 1,251 meters were constructed. This comprehensive development includes office buildings, trading markets, cold storage facilities, processing areas, commercial zones, and other production and support facilities, covering a total of 12,644.11 cubic meters. Construction commenced in August 2020 and has now reached completion.

Key Stakeholders and Contributors

The project’s success was attributed to the collaborative efforts of key stakeholders. The announcement of the project’s completion was made earlier this week by the project engineer from CRCC Harbor and Channel Engineering Bureau Group Limited, a Chinese marine engineering firm responsible for the construction.

Future Management and Maintenance

Oversight by Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, emphasized the importance of contributions from various stakeholders in achieving this milestone. He also highlighted that the harbor will be under the management and maintenance of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA). This arrangement ensures the security and proper upkeep of the harbor, promoting sustainable operations.
