MT Højgaard has reached a significant milestone in the Port of Roenne’s expansion project, marking a crucial step forward in enhancing the port’s infrastructure.
Key Milestone in Port of Roenne Expansion
The completion of sand filling and the construction of the bottom protection layer for Stage 3 represents a pivotal achievement in the ongoing Port of Roenne expansion. This phase marks the successful end of a substantial portion of the project, as highlighted in the Port’s latest update.
Final Sand Delivery Strengthens Port Foundation
The hopper dredger Ostend delivered the final load of sand, totaling 400,000 cubic meters. This critical addition lays a solid foundation for the continued development of the port’s infrastructure, enabling future enhancements to accommodate larger vessels and increased traffic.
Progress on Quay 36 and Ro-Ro Ramp Construction
“We are also making great progress with the concrete work on Quay 36 and the Ro-Ro ramp,” said Dan Harborg Locht, Project Director at MT Højgaard. The local branch of NCC on Bornholm is responsible for supplying the concrete, with this phase of work expected to continue until the end of October. These structures are vital for ensuring the port’s capability to handle increased maritime activity.
Stage 3 Expansion to Enhance Port Capacity
Stage 3 of the expansion project focuses on creating over 100,000 square meters of new project area at the southern end of the port. This includes the partial filling of the former fishing basin, an area currently experiencing minimal activity, thereby maximizing the port’s operational space.
New Ro-Ro Ramp and Quay to Support Larger Vessels
As part of the expansion, a new Ro-Ro ramp and a 280-meter-long quay will be constructed opposite the existing quay at the southern end of the port. These additions are designed to support larger vessels, ensuring the Port of Roenne remains a crucial hub for maritime trade and transportation.
