Neptune Unveils New Dredger for PD Ports
Dutch shipbuilder Neptune Marine has recently launched its inaugural in-house designed diesel-electric dredger, the Emerald Duchess, for PD Ports.
Advanced Design and Environmental Standards
This 2,000m³ Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) is meticulously designed and constructed to meet stringent environmental and safety standards, ensuring optimal performance on the River Tees.
Future-Proof Features for Carbon-Neutral Operations
The Emerald Duchess features a range of bespoke design elements that prepare it for future carbon-neutral operations. One notable innovation is its intelligent power management system, allowing the vessel to switch between power sources.
Innovative Power Management System
The vessel can operate using a battery pack with the capacity of 10 Tesla cars or fuel derived from hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), also known as renewable diesel.
Replacing the Cleveland County
Measuring 71 meters in length, the Emerald Duchess will replace the Cleveland County, which faithfully served PD Ports’ conservancy team on the Tees for half a century.
Key Features of the Emerald Duchess
- In-House Design: Neptune Marine’s first internally designed diesel-electric dredger.
- Environmental Standards: Built to meet high environmental and safety standards.
- Carbon-Neutral Ready: Equipped with bespoke features for future carbon-neutral operations.
- Power Management: Intelligent system to switch between battery power and HVO fuel.
- Legacy Replacement: Replaces the Cleveland County, serving for 50 years.
By focusing on these aspects, Neptune Marine ensures that the Emerald Duchess sets new benchmarks in dredging technology, environmental sustainability, and operational efficiency.
