Pensacola, Florida – In a bid to enhance stormwater management, Pensacola city officials have embarked on a strategic dredging project in collaboration with DKE Marine Services, Inc. This initiative aims to alleviate sediment buildup and debris accumulation in critical areas surrounding Bayou Texar’s storm drainage outfalls.
The project, not to be confused with a comprehensive dredging of Bayou Texar’s primary channel, focuses specifically on nine stormwater outfall locations. These sites, including Bayview Park, Seville Outfall, Lloyd Street, Tyler Avenue, Menendez Drive, East Desoto Street, Stowe Avenue, East 34th Street, and Chipley Avenue, have been identified as priority areas for sediment removal and debris clearance.
Approved by the Pensacola City Council on October 12, the contract with DKE Marine Services, Inc. amounts to $642,504. This investment underscores the city’s commitment to proactive stormwater management and environmental preservation.
The project timeline anticipates completion by the end of May. Once finished, the dredging efforts will contribute to improved drainage efficiency and reduced flood risks in the Pensacola area.
