The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ New York District is set to hold virtual public meetings to gather input on the updated Interim Dredged Material Management Plan (DMMP) for the Port of New York and New Jersey. These sessions will be conducted on Monday, May 20, 2024, during two time slots: from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
Purpose of the Interim DMMP Update
This interim update of the DMMP aims to efficiently handle dredged materials from various origins, including Federal Navigation Channels, projects permitted by the Department of the Army, and Federal Harbor deepening. The focus of this plan is on the five-year span from 2025 to 2029, emphasizing the placement needs of dredged materials until the projected completion of the Historic Area Remediation Site (HARS) remediation in the New York Bight.
Compliance and Environmental Considerations
In adherence to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (as amended), the New York District will draft a Supplemental Environmental Assessment to accompany the DMMP Update Report.
Public Participation and Feedback
Participants in the meeting will have the opportunity to comment on forthcoming projects involving dredged materials, possible locations for placement, and the facilities processing these materials.
