Grundfos, a pump solutions company, has successfully acquired Metasphere, a UK-based telemetry and analytics company specializing in intelligent sewer solutions for water networks. Through this acquisition, the company aims to strengthen its offerings for municipal customers globally and tackle climate change challenges.
Addressing Climate Change Challenges in Water Networks
Water system failures already cost cities approximately $194 billion annually, a figure expected to increase due to climate change and extreme weather events. Sewer networks are particularly vulnerable. However, these challenges can be significantly mitigated by integrating Internet-of-Things (IoT) enabled hardware, weather data, and advanced analytics.
Metasphere’s ART Sewer integrated solution, which combines hardware and analytics software, offers a predictive and preventive approach to managing sewer network overflows. Already in use by leading water utilities, ART Sewer’s easy installation and powerful insights support efforts to combat the effects of environmental change.
Grundfos’s Strategic Approach to Water Management
Grundfos sees the acquisition of Metasphere as a significant step in its strategy to address challenges that require a holistic network perspective beyond pumps and hydraulics. The collaboration will allow Grundfos to introduce Metasphere’s innovative solutions, including the ART Sewer system, to its global network of partners.
HP Nanda, CEO of Water Utility, Grundfos, said, “In Grundfos, we pioneer solutions to the world’s energy and climate challenges. Smart sewer technology will play a critical role in improving the ability of sewer systems worldwide to handle extreme weather events and overflows. We are excited about introducing Metasphere and their innovative solutions to our global audience of partners as part of our strategic journey towards a sustainable future where our water is safe.”
Tim O’Brien, CEO of Metasphere, added, “Joining forces with one of the biggest names in the water utility industry is an important milestone on the journey towards our vision of zero spillage. With Grundfos, we will also be able to explore innovative ways to utilize different assets in a sewer network to avoid overflow across its global network. We are proud to be a UK-based business with the tools to improve water systems for everyone in the UK and worldwide.”
