The Port of Gdansk Authority has recently declared that the upgrade of the breakwater system in the Northern Port is nearing its final stages.
According to reports, the construction phase has been completed, with only formalities and settlement matters remaining unresolved.
In its latest update, the port stated, “The investment by the Maritime Office in Gdynia enhances port efficiency, bolsters safety measures, and enhances operational capacity regardless of weather conditions.”
The expansion primarily focused on upgrading the system of breakwaters responsible for shielding the eastern side of the Northern Port. The project covers an approximate area of 232 hectares, including dredging works spanning about 145 hectares.
Key components of the project comprise:
- Erecting a new protective breakwater as an extension of the existing island breakwater.
- Establishing a platform for bird habitat (Bird Island) situated between the pre-existing island breakwater and its extension.
- Constructing a new southeast breakwater spanning 826 meters in length.
- Rehabilitating the northern island breakwater, measuring 1,625 meters in length.
